Methadone – Do you prescribe Methadone for pain?

methGood question!

Although methadone can ease the pain, its side effects and potential interactions with other medications can be serious, even lethal at higher doses.  Click here to read about methadone overdose deaths.

Normally I prefer to prescribe Suboxone. A German pharmaceutical company developed Suboxone (buprenorphine), and it has turned out to be a dependable treatment for nixing those nasty symptoms.

It’s quite safe, though any medicine holds the possibility of unusual reactions. I do know of one death in our area when someone simultaneously injected buprenorephine and Xanax (alprazalom).
